Deputies propose to pay pension to convicted citizens

Deputies of the Legislative Chamber discussed the bill "On amendments and additions to some legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with the improvement of the criminal executive legislation".

The bill provides for the possibility of paying pensions to persons sentenced to imprisonment and serving sentences in the colony-settlements.

During the discussion, the deputies proposed to pay the pension to persons serving a sentence not only in prisons but also in all institutions.

To date, the number of convicted persons of retirement age is about 1000 people. According to the deputies, the suspension of payment of pensions to persons during the period of serving the sentence is a restriction not only of their rights, but also of persons who are dependent on them.

The deputies, referring to the experience of foreign countries, noted that convicts have the right to appoint and receive a pension for age, disability, loss of breadwinner and other legal grounds. At the same time, in Belarus, Russia and the EU there is a practice of deduction from the pension (within 20%) of the convict to imprisonment, in order to cover the monthly costs of its maintenance in institutions for the execution of punishment (food, clothing, shoes, etc.).
