Most Polluted Tashkent Canals Revealed

On August 2, 2023, water samples were collected and analyzed from several canals in Tashkent to determine chemical pollutant levels using the Water Pollution Index (SII), as reported by "Uzhydromet". The results are as follows:

  • Buzsuv Canel - Teleminora Area: An increase in copper concentration was observed, measuring 1.6 REM. The oxygen levels were satisfactory, with a dissolved oxygen concentration of 11.34 mgO/2l. The water quality was categorized as class II clean waters, with an SII value of 0.73.

  • Karasuv Canal - Furqat Park Area: Notable concentrations of nitrite nitrogen at 1.05 REM, phenol at 6.0 REM, and copper at 2.2 REM were recorded. Oxygen levels were satisfactory, and the dissolved oxygen concentration was -11.33 mgO/2l. The water quality was classified as class III moderately polluted waters, with a CIII value of 1.87.


  • Salar Canal - Below Ecopark: An increase in copper concentration was noted at 4.6 REM. Oxygen levels were satisfactory, and the dissolved oxygen concentration measured 8.36 mgO/2l. The water quality was categorized as class III moderately polluted waters, with an SII value of 1.28.


  • Ankhor Canal - Below the Small Ring Road: Concentrations of oil products at 7.4 REM and copper at 1.2 REM were observed. Oxygen levels were satisfactory, with a dissolved oxygen concentration of 11.32 mgO/2l. The water quality fell into class III moderately polluted waters, with an SII value of 1.68.


  • Burijar Canal - Magic City Park Area: An increase in copper concentration was noted at 1.4 REM. Oxygen levels were satisfactory, and the dissolved oxygen concentration measured 10.76 mgO/2l. The water quality was classified as class II clean waters, with an SII value of 0.54.
