Uzbekistan Boosts Public Transport: 5,000 Free Cards
Over 5,000 preferential transport cards were distributed to specific citizen groups, promoting the widespread use of public transport in the republic and prompting the need for sector development.
Currently, there are 3,903 routes in the Republic, with 3,094 operating and 809 closed due to a lack of applicants. Of these, 774 (621 operating) are urban, 2,756 (2,184) suburban, 282 (198) regional intercity, and 91 (91) intercity routes. A total of 38,926 motor vehicles operate on these routes, including 5,506 buses.
Moreover, 22 regular international bus routes were initiated to Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Russia, serving an average of 337,000 passengers in the 9th month of 2023.
During the reporting period, 166 open tenders were conducted across the republic, placing 1,847 passenger transportation routes, including 314 intra-city, 1,345 suburban, 127 inter-city, and 61 inter-city-regional routes.
In 2023, 76 new routes were established, including 28 buses and 48 taxi routes. These routes are served by 141 buses, 75 minibuses, and 304 "Damas" cars.
Aligned with the President's decisions and programs, 1,137 new buses (1,000 in Tashkent, 137 in the regions) and 305 minibuses were introduced on passenger transportation routes.
An international tender awarded Yutong the delivery of 100 electric buses in 2023 as part of the "Green Cities" program by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Six buses have been delivered and are operating on the route connecting Samarkand with the "Eternal City" complex.
Programs include the construction and reconstruction of 742 bus stops and 23 bus stations this year. To date, two bus stations have been built and commissioned in Kashkadarya and Tashkent regions, and one bus station has been reconstructed in Namangan region.
