Uzbekistan issues first green energy certificates

Uzbekistan issues its first green energy certificate. According to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, two thousand certificates have been issued, moving forward towards sustainable energy practices in the country.

These certificates recognize electricity generated by the Tuyabuguz hydroelectric plant. To incentivize green energy adoption, Uzbekistan introduced benefits for certificate holders in February 2024. Income generated from the sale of these certificates is exempt from income tax. The introduction of green certificates aligns with Uzbekistan's 2023 state program. A dedicated project office has been established to manage the accounting and sale of these certificates, facilitating their integration into the country's energy framework.
