Today marks 38 years since tragic death of "Pakhtakor-79"

Today marks 38 years since a plane carrying football team "Pakhtakor" crashed.

On August 11, 1979, at 13:35, two passenger aircraft Tu-134A collided when flying over Dneprodzerzhinsk area at a height of 8400 m. There were 84 people on board of the plane following from Tashkent to Minsk, including 17 athletes of the football team "Pakhtakor". The second was following the route Chelyabinsk — Voronezh — Kishinev. 88 passengers and 6 crew members were on board. A total of 178 people died as a result of the accident.

A memorial monument was placed at a cemetery named after Botkin in honour of the team "Pakhtakor-79".

Several events dedicated to the memory of the victims of this tragic accident were held throughout the city on August 11.
