Volvo XC40 SUV wins Car of the Year at Geneva Motor Show

The Volvo XC40 was crowned the 2018 Car of the Year by a pan-European panel of judges at the Geneva Motor Show on Monday (March 5).

The Swedish SUV has received a raft of strong reviews since its unveiling in September 2017, and been the recipient of a number of accolades since.

Volvo is seeking to emulate the success of its larger XC90 and best-selling XC60 SUVs, which have helped the with four straight years of record sales.

The XC40 is a direct competitor to the Audi Q3, BMW X1, Mercedes GLA and the Jaguar E-PACE.

Since it was bought from Ford by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group in 2010, Volvo has taken on larger rivals such as BMW and Daimler's Mercedes-Benz with new, more upmarket models.

The International Geneva Motor Show opens its doors to the press on Tuesday March 6.
