Uzbekistan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have inked $150mn loan agreements to finance infrastructure projects, the Uzbek Ministry of Investment and Trade said on December 10.
The funds will be allocated to implement projects on supporting the electricity sector and construction of a water pipeline network to improve the water supply in the Muzrabod district of Surkhandarya region, the ministry said.
During the video conference talks, the EBRD expressed readiness to provide comprehensive support to accelerate reforms in the financial and banking sector of Uzbekistan, it said.
The parties also reviewed the implementation of a number of projects in the field of energy, housing and utilities, ecology and the private sector totaling more than EUR 1bn.
They separately discussed financing projects in the private sector, which, according to the EBRD, is an extremely attractive and promising area of cooperation.
