Samarkand eyes to become transport and tourist hub

Samarkand region of Uzbekistan eyes to become a transport and tourist hub. The international airport AIR MARAKANDA, which is currently being erected, is to help achieve this goal. The project is financed at the expense of $80mn worth of private investment of Air Marakanda, with the involvement of specialists from Munich and Istanbul international airports. 

The idea of the terminal was developed depending on the scientific work of Mirzo Ulugbek. Being inspired by the history, the designers decided to give the form of the book to this airport. The airport earlier served 350 passengers per hour and about 460,000 per year. The completion of the project as expected would increase this number to a thousand per hour, the capacity per year is set to reach 2mn. The number of flights per week would also be expanded from 40 to 120. The construction of the airport is to be completed in the Q4 of this year.
