Uzbekistan intends to purchase energy from Rogun hydroelectric power station in summer

The governments of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan signed a memorandum of intent on the export of electricity, which will be generated by the Rogun hydroelectric power station in the summer. This was reported to Gazeta.uz by the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.

The document was signed in order to strengthen friendly relations between the two countries, on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.

At present, according to the Tajik side, the process of phased commissioning of all units of the Rogun hydroelectric power station is underway.

Terms, regimes, electricity supplies, volumes and tariffs will be considered under a separate Electricity Purchase Agreement, which is planned to be signed before the end of this year. Preliminarily, we are talking about an agreement for a period of 10 years.

Recall that the construction of the Rogun HPP dam was launched in October 2016 in the city of Rogun on the banks of the Vakhsh River. The 335 m high hydroelectric dam will be the tallest rock-and-earth dam in the world. The HPP will have six units with a capacity of 600 MW each. With a total capacity of 3,600 MW (over 17 billion kWh), Rogun HPP will be the largest hydroelectric power plant in the region.
