The US Senate has announced a new US Ambassador to Uzbekistan. Incumbent since May 2019, Ambassador Daniel Rosenblum is completing his three-year mission and will continue his tenure as U.S. Ambassador to Kazakhstan.
The US Senate has announced a new US Ambassador to Uzbekistan. Incumbent since May 2019, Ambassador Daniel Rosenblum is completing his three-year mission and will continue his tenure as U.S. Ambassador to Kazakhstan.
At the regular meeting of the US Senate, held on July 27, Jonathan Henick was approved as the new US Ambassador to Uzbekistan.
Jonathan Henick is a senior member of the US Foreign Service with the status of Ambassador-Counselor. Since last year, he has been a US State Department Chair in the College of Information and Cyberspace at the National Defense University. He previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs. He was responsible for public diplomacy and media relations in Central Asia and South and Central Asia.
Jonathan Henick was born in New York and speaks Russian, Portuguese, Turkish and Azerbaijani. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Hawaii, an MA in International Relations from Columbia University in New York, and a BA from Columbia College.
“I will strive to advance US interests and strengthen our strategic partnership with Uzbekistan, strengthening our bilateral security, people-to-people and economic ties, and advancing the democratic values we share. I will also try to create an inclusive work environment at the US Embassy in Tashkent, where employees value collegiality, teamwork and respect,” Henick said during his speech.
