Uzbekistan Climbs 5 Spots in 2023 Corruption Index
Transparency International released the 2023 Corruption Perceptions Index, revealing that Uzbekistan advanced by 5 positions to secure 121st place among 180 countries, scoring 33 points. This marks a 2-point improvement from the previous year and a total rise of 5 places from the 2022 ranking, where Uzbekistan held the 126th spot.
The country has demonstrated consistent progress over the past seven years, increasing its score from 22 points in 2017 to the current 33 points in 2023. The positive developments were attributed to the implementation of anti-corruption procedures aligned with regulatory legal documents. Additionally, effective internal anti-corruption control systems were introduced in various ministries and agencies.
Notably, strict measures of accountability were enforced against officials found guilty of corruption crimes.
