UZREPORT beats Beeline in copyright infringement lawsuit

News TV channel UZREPORT has won a copyright infringement lawsuit against Unitel, a subsidiary of the VEON group of companies, which provides cellular communication services under the Beeline trademark.

The Tashkent Interdistrict Economic Court, chaired by Judge Vitaly Li, on June 28 announced a decision on the full satisfaction of the claim of UZREPORT.

According to the decision, the defendant Unitel is obliged to remove the UZREPORT TV and FUTBOL TV channels from the Beeline TV mobile application and avoid the broadcast of these channels without entering an agreement with UZREPORT.

“We consider the court's decision on the full satisfaction of our TV channel's claim against Beeline to be objective and fair. Copyright issues are an integral part of state policy. UzReport is currently preparing a lawsuit against Beeline, as well as against O'zbekiston Kabel Televideniyasi for compensation for moral and financial damage as a result of illegal actions, "commented on Alisher Azimov, First Deputy editor at UZREPORT.

A statement filed by Uzreport on May 26 this year noted that Beeline, without the conclusion of an agreement, has been engaged in the retransmission of UZREPORT TV and FUTBOL TV (owned by UZREPORT) content through its mobile application "Beeline TV".

As the operator had not suspended the broadcasts, the TV channel asked the court to oblige the operator to suspend retransmission.
