Ancient type of equestrian sport – ‘tent pegging’ to be developed, popularized in Uzbekistan

The Tentpegging Federation is officially registered in Uzbekistan. With its creation, Uzbekistan will develop and popularize an ancient type of equestrian sport, which is also called cavalry, the press service of the Justice Ministry has reported.

Tentpegging is one of the ten disciplines recognized by the International Equestrian Federation. It includes a complex of various competitions using sports weapons. The meaning of this contest is that a rider armed with a spear or sword must pierce a small object half-buried in the ground (formally called a "peg tent peg") at maximum speed. As a result of several trips, it is necessary to raise the peg as many times as possible.

As soon as the rider starts the competition, the focus is on the object, not on his horses. Tying a tent requires a well-trained horse that responds instantly to commands and is not afraid of noise or sudden movements. If a participant makes certain mistakes, such as losing a spear, sword, or exceeding the allowed time, etc., he is subject to penalties. These penalty points will be deducted from the points he scored. The winner of the competition is the participant who scored the most points.
