Uzbekistan Launches Road Safety Initiative

A regional working group for road inspections, focused on analyzing traffic accidents, identifying their causes, and eliminating conducive conditions, has been established. The objective is to enhance traffic safety and proactively prevent accidents.

The President's decrees of July 11, 2017, and April 4, 2022, titled "Measures to Further Improve the Road Safety System" and "Reliable Provision of Human Safety on Highways," respectively, have set the framework for these efforts. These measures are intended to significantly reduce traffic accidents and enhance safety on roads within the Tashkent region.

Through comprehensive analysis of past traffic accidents in the Tashkent region, the focus is on inspecting roads to identify the root causes of these accidents as well as the conditions that contribute to them. The regional working group has delineated its core responsibilities:

  • Formulating recommendations for identifying and rectifying causes and conditions leading to traffic accidents.
  • Assessing the necessity for traffic management equipment such as traffic lights, roadblocks, signs, and pedestrian pathways, and applying a scientific approach to regulate dangerous roads and intersections within cities, districts, and neighborhoods.
  • Identifying road defects like patches and potholes that pose substantial threats to traffic safety, with subsequent plans for repair.
  • Developing strategies to enhance public transportation services.
  • Proposing initiatives for digitizing the realm of traffic safety.

This initiative underscores a dedicated effort towards a safer road environment, addressing existing vulnerabilities, and creating a roadmap for a safer future.
