Uzbekistan ranks fifth on cheapest drinking water globally
Uzbekistan stands out for having the fifth cheapest drinking water globally, priced at $0.11 per cubic meter. Other countries with affordable water include Egypt, Cuba, Pakistan, and Indonesia.
The cost of clean drinking water varies significantly worldwide. In Denmark, it is the most expensive at $9.70 per cubic meter, followed by Belgium, Norway, and Germany.
Notably, Turkmenistan had free access to water until November 1, 2017, with a later charge of $0.14 per cubic meter for overconsumption until 2019. In Kazakhstan, water prices vary by region, with an average cost of $0.18 per cubic meter.
In fact, Uzbekistan recently implemented new tariffs for cold water, resulting in an average doubling of rates. For instance, in Khorezm, tariffs increased from 1,500 soums to 2,800 soums per cubic meter on November 3. Similar adjustments were made in Samarkand, Fergana, Tashkent, and other regions of Uzbekistan.
