Otabek Umarov was elected vice-president of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) for the Central Asian region during the 44th General Assembly of the OCA, held in New Delhi, India. The assembly included elections for key leadership positions. Raja Randhir Singh, the acting head of the organization, was elected President of the OCA, and vice-presidents for the five regions were chosen by vote.

Otabek Umarov was elected as the vice-president for the Central Asian region, which includes Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Afghanistan. Previously, he briefly served as vice-president for the Tashkent-2025 Asian Youth Games. While this role was temporary, the vice-presidency for the Central Asian region is a permanent position. Umarov will now oversee the development of Olympism in one of the five regions across the continent.

His recent achievements in sports management have been particularly recognized, leading to his election to this more significant role. At the assembly, Otabek Umarov highlighted the growing global recognition of Asian sports, noting that four Asian countries were among the top 15 at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games. He also emphasized Uzbekistan's historic success in sports, supported by the President, and pledged to further promote the ideals of Olympism in the region.
