Uzbek-Tajik business forum sees signing $103.3mn worth agreements

The Uzbek-Tajik business forum was underway in Tashkent on August 16.

The event was organized to promote the expansion of trade relations between entrepreneurs of the two countries, as well as to promote the growth of the number of new joint ventures and strengthen bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

The business forum saw more than 400 representatives of business circles of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, which is a vivid evidence of growing mutual interest and mutual desire of the parties to actively develop mutually beneficial trade-economic and investment ties.

Today, due to the efforts of the leaders of the two countries, there is a positive trend in mutual trade. In the first half of 2018, the mutual trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan increased by 35% and reached $160 million.

The parties noted that despite the existing opportunities, the state of trade, economic and investment cooperation between our countries does not yet correspond to the existing potential. The leaders of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan set the task to raise the bilateral trade to $500 million by 2020 by expanding mutual supplies of demanded products.

In addition, the Uzbek side calls on Tajik companies to actively use the mechanism of financing trade operations in the amount of up to $100 million represented by Uzbek banks, which would allow to reach the level of trade turnover of $500 million at a rapid pace.

11 agreements worth $103.3 million were signed in the framework of the business forum between the representatives of business circles of the two countries.
