Uzbekistan sets up Cultural Heritage Agency
In a bid to protect the unique cultural heritage sites, Uzbekistan has set up a Cultural Heritage Agency under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. The relevant resolution was signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. At a meeting held on Monday, the ministry defined the main functions and tasks of the agency.
The meeting also analyzed the digitalization and innovative development of the sphere as well as strengthening its financial and technical base.
“We have agreed to increase the archaeological excavations, and this is a special order of the president, which we will fulfill. Under the commonwealth telecommunications organization, we will involve scientists of Uzbekistan to create new books about culture and archeology”, said Aziz Abdukhakimov, Minister of Tourism and Sports..
The main tasks of the Agency are the protection of objects of material cultural heritage, the development of museums, the preservation of the uniqueness of specially protected historical and cultural territories, the support of archaeological research, the identification of cultural values abroad related to the history and culture of Uzbekistan, and the creation of an appropriate database.
“There are a lot of modernist buildings in Tashkent. In this direction, we attract foreign specialists to maintain a unified concept of modernism in the city”, Abdukhakimov added.
