Mirziyoyev inspects construction of Samarkand International Airport

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Thursday arrived in Samarkand to inspect the construction of the international airport. He gave instructions to modernize the air harbour in 2019.

The project provides for the construction of a new passenger terminal, a runway, parking lots and other facilities.

The new terminal is to receive a modern design and capacity to serve 800 passengers per hour. The former capacity of the airport was twice less.

- The main goal should be the convenience of the airport for people. To do this, it is necessary to use smart technologies, make sure that the service is inexpensive, high - quality and fast, - said Mirziyoyev.

The new airport is expected to have 24 parking spaces for aircraft of various sizes. Three parking lots are to be designed for de-icing treatment.

Cargo services are to be arranged at the airport. Mirziyoyev urged to pay particular attention to this issue and gave instructions on improving the competitiveness of cargo transportation.

- In order for cargo services to be stable and profitable, a constant flow of cargo is needed. To do this, it is necessary to ensure the cheapness and speed of aircraft maintenance, shipment and delivery of cargo, and involve other airlines in this process. In addition, the region, by increasing the production of export-oriented fruit and vegetable products, will be able to deliver it to the world market directly through this cargo center, " he added.

The updated airport is scheduled to be put into operation in September this year.

Samarkand International Airport was built in 1967.
