Muruntau Mine produced 1.7 million ounces of gold in 2022
The ranking was topped by the Grasberg deposit in Indonesia, where almost 1.8 million ounces of gold were mined last year. Muruntau retained the title of the world's largest gold mine from 2020 to 2022, according to think tank Kitco. Last year, the mine produced more than 2 million ounces of gold.The mine's resource base is estimated at more than 150 million ounces. It is over 3.3km long, 2.5km wide and almost 600m deep.
A total of 10 major deposits made it into Kitco's ranking:

7. Detour Lake, Canada: 733 Koz
8. Cortez, USA: 731 Koz
9. Pueblo Viejo, Dominican Republic: 713 Koz
10. Lulo Gunkoto, Mali: 684 Koz
