Tashkent commissions new metallurgical plant

Tashkent on December 4 commissioned a metallurgical plant. The total cost of the project made up €326.7mn, of which €226mn were foreign investments, the company's press service said.

The plant will produce metal sheets for car bodies, household appliances, as well as profiled flooring and other products for the construction industry. Upon reaching full capacity, the company will produce up to 500,000 tons of cold-rolled metal per year. Some of the products are planned to be exported to the CIS, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan and other countries.

Today, Uzbekistan imports rolled steel from Russia and China.

"Creating the project from scratch allowed us to set the highest international standards for environmental safety. The main thing is that traditional stoves will not be used here, as a result, the emission of dust and gas will be insignificant. All production processes will be carried out in a closed cycle " said Bekali Turabekov, quality director of the company.

He added that there will be virtually no waste generated at the plant. For example, water used in production will be treated with special filters and returned to the process, rather than being discharged into the environment. Atmospheric emissions will also be cleaned up and kept to a minimum.

"We should not forget about the jobs that are being created. After reaching full capacity, the company will create more than 700 jobs, most of which will be occupied by local specialists. I will say more, the new plant and the metallurgical cluster that is being formed will become an incentive for the development of training and retraining of personnel in this industry. The company has already signed contracts with leading universities in this field to organize students 'practice and introduce interesting domestic developments of scientific institutions into production," the specialist said.
