UNESCO inscribes Zarafshan-Karakum silk road corridor on its heritage list

The Zarafshan-Karakum corridor of the Great Silk Road has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The decision was approved at the 45th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, which is held from September 10 to 25 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. 


The Zarafshan-Karakum Silk Road corridor consists of 31 sites located in three countries. Of these, 9 sites are in Tajikistan, 15 are located in Uzbekistan, and the remaining 7 are in Turkmenistan.

 All the sites were located on one of the most important trade routes in history, the Silk Road, and show the centuries-old history and rich cultural and historical heritage of the region.
