Ministry of Energy: The Taliban's rise to power stabilizes electricity supplies from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan
The Taliban's rise to power stabilized the supply of electricity from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan. Earlier in Afghanistan, there were frequent cases of terrorist attacks and explosions of power grids, for the restoration of which the Afghan power engineers spent much effort, money, and time, Deputy Energy Minister Sherzod Hodzhayev said.
"What is remarkable, is that the change in the political situation in Afghanistan has had a positive impact on our country's energy sector. Prior to that, Afghanistan had frequent incidents of terrorist attacks, power grid explosions, for which the Afghan power engineers spent a lot of energy, money, and time to restore. As a result, our power system had to undergo extraordinary unexpected outages or connections after these restorations. Today, we believe that these problems have been completely eliminated because the power supply is even," Hodzhayev noted.
"Today, Uzbekistan exports electricity only to Afghanistan. Immediately after the change of power, we received an official appeal from Afghanistan's power engineers. The new government said that the Afghan power engineers were tasked not only to continue cooperation in the field of energy but also to increase it. After that we had several talks with power engineers of Afghanistan and representatives of Afghan government," he said.
The supply of electricity is now continuing based on contracted volumes scheduled for 2021.
