Spanish king receives Deputy PM of Uzbekistan

Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Committee for Tourism Development of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov was received by King Philip VI during his trip to Spain.

The king hosted an official reception in honor of the heads of foreign delegations at his Palacio Real de Madrid residence. The opening part of the event discussed the role of tourism in the Spanish economy, its contribution to employment, as well as the importance of this industry in the development of international cooperation and in the formation of a post-pandemic economy. After the official events, the King of Spain had a personal meeting with the head of the Uzbek delegation.

On behalf of the President and the entire Uzbek people, Aziz Abdukhakimov sent greetings to the king and his family, as well as to the Spanish people. King Philip VI, in turn, warmly recalled his meeting with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in June 2017 in Astana, which took place within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. The king noted that the friendly relations between Spain and Uzbekistan have a long history, dating back to the visit of the King of Spain Rui Gonzalez de Clavijo to Samarkand six centuries ago and his meeting with Amir Temur.

The sides discussed the possibility of supplying two more Spanish-made Talgo trains to Uzbekistan, which link major tourist cities of the country.
