The United States refuses 47% of U.S. visa applications in Uzbekistan
Last year, the US Embassy in Tashkent refused to issue B-category visas (tourist and business visas) to 47.04% of Uzbek nationals, the United States Department of State reported.
This is slightly higher than in 2021, when 45.98% of those who applied were refused, but better than during the pandemic 2020 - 74.14%, 2019 - 68.06%, 2018 - 61.76% and 2017 - 50.29%.
Among the Central Asia countries, Uzbekistan ranked second in terms of visa refusal rate after Tajikistan, at 57.03%, while the refusal rate in Kyrgyzstan topped at 37.85%, Kazakhstan - at 44.02%, in Turkmenistan - at 35.69%.
In other CIS countries, the rates are Azerbaijan - 23.54%, Belarus - 26.05%, Russia - 26.18%, Armenia - 37.87%, and Ukraine - 41.27% (15.15% in the past year).
Former US Ambassador to Tashkent Daniel Rosenblum noted in 2019 that Uzbeks often overstayed their visas.
“That is why we must study each person in detail and be sure that he will not overstay his visa and become an illegal immigrant,” he pointed out.
It should be noted that over the past year, the Consular Section of the US Embassy in Tashkent ranked fifth in the number of approved visas (5511) for immigrants of different nationalities under the Diversity Visa (Green Card) program around the world, with Egypt (5529) and Algeria (5526) on the top.
