Uzbekistan and U.S. Sign Agreement to Protect Cultural Heritage

An agreement was signed between Uzbekistan and the United States regarding the introduction of import restrictions on archaeological and ethnological materials. This agreement aims to prevent illegal circulation of cultural assets and museum objects. Bahodir Abdikarimov, the Director of the Cultural Heritage Agency, and Jonathan Henick, the U.S. Ambassador to Uzbekistan, signed the agreement.

The agreement focuses on preventing the looting of archaeological and ethnological materials and imposes import restrictions on listed objects. It also involves training specialists, facilitating joint exhibitions, and promoting cultural heritage exchange between the two countries.

Uzbekistan is the first country in Central Asia to sign such an agreement with the United States, joining 25 other nations in this effort. The United States has allocated $1 million to protect and restore cultural heritage sites in Uzbekistan. Jonathan Henick expressed a desire to collaborate in preserving Uzbekistan's cultural heritage and showcasing its rich history to the world.
