The Uzbek President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Qatari delegation headed by the State`s Deputy PM, Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdurahman Al Thani, on Wednesday. The sides analyzed the agenda on strengthening the multifaceted relations.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted the recent considerable growing dynamics of bilateral cooperation. One of the vivid examples can be the growing indicators of trade turnover. Uzbekistan’s export to Qatar skyrocketed by 228.7 times in the period between January to April this year reaching $15.9mn. In the same period of 2020, this figure was worth $100,000. In order to encourage business and tourist exchanges, Uzbekistan introduced a 10-day visa-free regime for Qatarians, starting from March this year.

The meeting touched upon the creation of a joint investment fund, the launch of modern production in industrial sectors, the deep processing of agricultural products and the modernization of infrastructure in Uzbekistan with the involvement of leading companies and banking and financial institutions of Qatar.

In April this year, the Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov met with the head of the Taliban`s Qatar office, Mullah Baradar Akhund, to advance the political process of establishing a stable and long-lasting peace in Afghanistan.

On the same day, foreign ministers of both states signed an agreement on the opening of direct flights on the Doha-Tashkent-Doha route.
