Badger captured by camera trap in Kyzylkum nature reserve

The State Ecology Committee is studying footage from camera traps installed on the territory of the Kyzylkum State Reserve.
By the way, the Kyzylkum state tugai-sand reserve is located in the middle reaches of the Amu Darya, on the territory of two regions of Uzbekistan - Bukhara and Khorezm. The animal world is represented by 29 species of reptiles, 27 species of fish and 2 species of amphibians. Part of the fauna is listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan.
Having studied the records from the camera traps, the national park staff noticed a badger. Badgers live along the banks of the Amudarya rivers and near water bodies. The mammal is a carnivore belonging to the amphibian family and is the only species of the badger family.
“His body is small, sharply narrowed towards the head. The neck is short, the muzzle is long and narrow, the legs are short, and strong, the badger moves most often with a small hasty step. Body length 60-90 cm, tail 15-20 cm. The predator leads a twilight-night lifestyle. The badger spends most of its life during the day in a hole and hunts at night. The badger's massive legs with long claws are very well adapted to digging deep burrows. They prey on mouse-like rodents, on various insects and their larvae, on all kinds of beetles, bumblebees and wasps, frogs, lizards, reptiles,” the State Committee for Ecology noted.
It is noteworthy that the Kyzylkum Reserve is also represented by unique inhabitants, among which are: the Bukhara deer, flamingo, and pelican as specially protected and rare species. Habitual inhabitants of the area are steppe cats, Tolai hares, foxes, wolves, wild boars, and sometimes gazelles are found. A variety of birds has abundantly represented: Amudarya and Khiva pheasant, steppe eagle, black and white stork, marbled teal, golden eagle, black kite, duck. In total, 267 species of birds live in the reserve.
