Margin of error for speed measurement may increase to 10 km/h

The margin of error for vehicle speed recorded by cameras and radars in Uzbekistan is expected to increase from 5 km/h to 10 km/h, considering technical inaccuracies in measuring equipment and vehicles, allowing for a greater adjustment to the officially recorded speed. Deputy Prime Minister Ochilboy Ramatov approved this proposal on July last year.

Former Legislative Chamber deputy Rasul Kusherbayev published the document. According to him, the draft of the relevant regulatory document has already been prepared. If the decision is approved, drivers in urban areas will be able to travel at speeds of up to 70 km/h without the risk of fines. Since April 5, the maximum permitted speed for vehicles in all cities of Uzbekistan has been reduced from 70 km/h to 60 km/h.

The directive also states that violations related to the continuous 1.1 road marking, which separates lanes moving in the same direction, will only be recorded in areas where roads comply with construction norms and state standards. Additionally, it has been proposed to make it mandatory to include detailed information about the technical devices that record violations in penalty decisions. This information would include the type of device, the factory serial number, and the calibration certificate.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs' "Safe City" Center will be designated as the authorized body responsible for overseeing the installation and operation of automated photo and video recording systems by private entities on roadways. By May 1, 2025, the Ministry of Internal Affairs must develop a unified national standard for implementing, launching, and using photo and video recording information systems. The "Safe City" Center will also periodically review all photo and video recording devices installed by private businesses and conduct tests in accordance with established regulations.
