Solar, wind and hydropower plants account for 25-30% of electricity in Uzbekistan
Since 2021, 10 "green" power plants have been commissioned in Uzbekistan: 9 solar and 1 wind. Their total capacity exceeds 2,500 megawatts. Additionally, hydroelectric power plants with a combined capacity of over 2,200 megawatts are also in operation.
In the first half of this year, solar and wind power plants generated 1.6 billion kWh of electricity, while hydropower plants produced 4.1 billion kWh. This saved 1.727 billion cubic meters of natural gas and prevented about 2.4 million tons of harmful gases from entering the atmosphere. In comparison, two coal-fired power plants in Uzbekistan produced 2.06 billion kWh of electricity from April to July 2023. By 2024, due to increased capacity of green energy stations, coal power generation has been reduced to 30%. Currently, solar, wind, and hydropower plants account for 25-30% of Uzbekistan's total electricity production. By 2030, it is expected that these sources will contribute more than 40% of the total electricity produced.
