Traffic Accidents Surge in Tashkent
In the 9th month of 2023, 539 traffic accidents happened in Tashkent, causing injuries to 566 pedestrians. Most accidents occurred when pedestrians crossed in areas not meant for them and disobeyed traffic lights. To improve safety, the Road Safety Service urged people to walk on sidewalks or on the roadside if there are no sidewalks.
Around 100 drivers were reported for not yielding to pedestrians, leading to administrative action taken against them. Over 7 months, nearly 4,800 accidents happened in Uzbekistan. Among these, 1,115 people died, and 4,564 sustained injuries. Shockingly, 96.7% of those who died in these accidents weren't wearing seat belts.
In the last 7 months of 2023, 675 traffic accidents occurred in Tashkent, causing 71 deaths and injuring 787 people.
