Rafiq Saifulin was charged with crimes under part 1 of article 157 (treason to the state) and part 1 of article 248 (illegal possession of weapons, ammunition, explosive devices) of the Criminal code.
A political scientist and former Director of the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Relations, Rafik Saifulin heard the final court verdict on May 25.
"During the closed trial, which lasted for several months, the testimony of the defendant and witnesses was heard and analyzed. The evidence collected by the investigative body was evaluated, and the defendant's arguments were verified, " the Supreme court said in a statement.

The court found Rafiq Saifulin guilty of the above-mentioned crimes and sentenced him to 12 years in prison.
