Uzbekistan introduces new customs fee for international courier parcels

Uzbekistan is introducing a fee for international courier parcels, applying to goods delivered from foreign marketplaces and parcels between individuals. A customs duty of 2% of the basic calculation amount will be charged per kilogram of cargo.

This new procedure, explained by the Customs Committee of Uzbekistan, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on January 31. While there is a duty-free import limit of $1,000 per calendar quarter, individuals must pay a customs fee of 30% on any goods exceeding this limit. For instance, if someone orders $1,300 worth of goods in a quarter, they would owe $90 for the $300 that exceeds the threshold. The Customs Committee noted that the volume of international courier shipments has significantly increased, rising from 541,000 parcels in 2019 to 5.736 million in 2024. The new 2% fee per kilogram aims to help cover costs related to customs processing and clearance of these shipments, including the construction and modernization of customs facilities and the employment of staff and technical equipment. This fee will support customs officials in processing cargo declarations and conducting customs control on imported shipments.
