Uzbekistan to modernize heating systems

Over the next five years, household gas demand will decrease by at least 20%. To achieve this, local boiler houses will be installed in the heating systems of four-story and higher buildings that are not connected to centralized heating. This is stated in the Presidential Decree “On the Radical Reform of Heat Supply for Housing and Buildings and Measures to Improve Energy Efficiency.”

A total of 103 outdated boiler houses and 1,600 kilometers of heating networks in centralized heating systems will be renovated. Modernization projects will be carried out in nine cities and districts through public-private partnerships and in 13 cities and districts with the support of international financial institutions. Centralized heating coverage will increase from 37% to 58%, while system losses will be reduced from 38% to 20%. Additionally, during the design and construction of new or renovated buildings requiring technical conditions, it will be mandatory to install renewable energy sources, alternative heating systems, and energy-saving equipment for their own needs. Multi-apartment houses and buildings must include internal heating and hot water distribution systems. Meters will be installed in all structures and networks. In areas with centralized heating, newly constructed buildings must be connected to the heating networks. The resolution also establishes “Heat Supply” JSC under the Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services, which will implement a unified state policy on heat supply.
