Uzbekkosmos in talks with SpaceX to launch scientific and technological satellite
Uzbekistan’s Space Research and Technology Agency, Uzbekkosmos, held negotiations with SpaceX representatives in Los Angeles during a recent visit to the United States, the agency’s press service reports. Both sides exchanged views on Uzbekistan’s developing National Strategy for Space Research and Technology, which outlines plans through 2035. SpaceX representatives expressed interest in reviewing the draft document and offered to provide feedback and recommendations to help improve it.
During the meeting, officials discussed the potential launch of a scientific and technological satellite—currently being assembled by young Uzbek engineers studying at Kyushu Institute of Technology in Japan. They plan to use a SpaceX rocket for the mission.
Uzbekkosmos signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Korea Aerospace Administration (KASA). The partnership will focus on space education, research, technology applications, and infrastructure development. They also reached an agreement with a French consulting firm, to support Uzbekistan’s “Space Research and Technology – 2035” strategy through advisory services.
Throughout the visit, the delegation prioritized studying global best practices, investment models, space-related free economic zones, and strategies for entering international markets.
In addition, they held talks with the Executive Director of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) about possibly hosting the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Uzbekistan in 2028.
