Uzbekistan Boosts Youth Sports

The draft of a presidential decree in Uzbekistan outlines plans to enhance youth engagement in sports in the Surkhandarya region. It proposes the establishment of a regional division of the ROWING & CANOE Federation of Uzbekistan to boost kayaking and canoeing sports.

The Surkhandarya regional government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Policy and Sports, aims to create an international sports base for kayaking and canoeing at the Uchkizil reservoir in the Termez district by December 1, 2024. Additionally, efforts will be made to optimize the use of sports facilities and swimming pools in educational institutions. This involves opening new sports groups based on demand, hiring experienced coaches, and enhancing overall sports performance.

To further promote physical education, an experimental inclusion of the subject "Physical education and sports" is proposed in the curriculum of all higher education institutions in the Surkhandarya region starting from the 2024-2025 academic year. Subsequently, from the 2025-2026 academic year, this subject will be integrated into the educational programs of all higher education institutions nationwide, irrespective of ownership.

Moreover, a system to recognize and reward outstanding physical fitness among students will be initiated. A competition will be held to identify the higher education institution with the most improved physical fitness standards, encouraging the popularity of physical education across all higher educational institutions, including foreign and non-state institutions.
