Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan Join Forces for Film on Renowned Poet

Filmmakers from Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan are collaborating to produce a film about Maqsud Shaykhzoda, a renowned poet, writer, playwright, and scientist from Uzbekistan. The cooperation was formalized through a memorandum signed between the Cinematography Agency of Uzbekistan's Ministry of Culture and the Azerbaijan Cinematography Agency during the "Days of Science and Culture of Uzbekistan" in Azerbaijan.

The agreement stems from the initiative put forth by Uzbekistan's President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to create films as part of the "Living History" series. This series encompasses 50 projects dedicated to showcasing the lives and contributions of historical figures in Uzbekistan. The film on Maqsud Shaykhzoda is one of the projects included in this seven-year program.

Firdavs Abduholikov, the director of the Cinematography Agency in Uzbekistan, emphasized the significance of these films in strengthening cultural ties between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. He expressed confidence that the collaborative film project would resonate with the people of both nations.

Orkhan Fikret, the director of the Cinematography Agency under the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, commended the positive developments in Uzbek cinema, attributing them to the attention and support provided by Uzbekistan's President. He also mentioned plans for future joint projects on various topics in collaboration with Uzbekistan's filmmakers.

Notably, a documentary film titled "Ikki Khalk Dilbandi," dedicated to Maqsud Sheikhzadeh's life and work, was previously produced through collaboration between the "First Art Media" studio, the 2021 Cinematography Agency, and the Azerbaijan Cultural Center named after Heydar Aliyev.
