Uzbekistan installs US Global Seismic Network station

After almost 2.5 years of preparation, the University of California in San Diego (UCSD) and the Republican Center for Seismological Prediction and Monitoring under the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Uzbekistan announced that a new modern seismic station was installed in Karasoy, located near Jizzakh.

US Ambassador Jonathan Henick and Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Mukhtar Mukhitdinov took part in the opening ceremony of the new seismic station. As part of the US Global Seismic Network of over 150 stations worldwide, this station is funded by the US government. It is maintained and trained by the UCSD International Accelerometer Deployment Program with support from the US National Science Foundation. The data collected at this station will be available to users worldwide, including scientists, engineers, students, and the general public, through the following website.

The station was created to better understand global seismic activity in Uzbekistan and Central Asia. Data from the station can be used to locate earthquakes and reduce the risks they pose, which is important for public safety and basic science.
