Uzbekistan seeks stronger trade and investment ties with EU
Today, on March 18, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with a delegation led by the European Union Commissioner for International Partnerships, Josef Sikela, who is on a working visit to the country.
During the meeting, they discussed key issues related to strengthening Uzbekistan-EU relations. The EU representative conveyed greetings and best wishes from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the rapid growth of cooperation in recent years across political, trade, economic, investment, cultural, and humanitarian sectors. They emphasized the significant potential for further expansion.
The early signing of a new Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Uzbekistan and the EU is expected to support these efforts. The parties also discussed joint projects in transport, logistics, energy, digitalization, agriculture, and water management. Special attention was given to cooperation in processing vital mineral resources.
Additionally, they reviewed preparations for the first "Central Asia - EU" summit and the Climate Forum, scheduled to take place in Samarkand in early April. The meeting also included discussions on regional cooperation in Central Asia.
