Huawei supports UNDP initiative to green Aral Sea bottom

This year is very unusual for the ICT industry in Uzbekistan, because the President of the Republic declared it “the Year of development of science, education and the digital economy”. The tasks set for this year coincide with the goals that Huawei has been engaged in the Uzbek market for two decades. Our company has always believed that information infrastructure is the basis and prerequisite for reducing the digital divide, improving people's living standards and economic growth of the country. And given the current level of ICT development in Uzbekistan and the innovative solutions and products offered on the global market, the state can significantly improve the living and working conditions of the population.

After many years of hard work, the focus of the government and citizens of the country on strengthening the ICT sector and improving the level of education is the most correct. We hope that the following goals will increase the construction of communication infrastructure, increased coverage of fiber optic network will improve wireless coverage, which will lead to unlimited access to education and economic growth of the country, thereby increasing the welfare of society and people's quality of life.

As the world's leading provider of information and communication solutions, following the goals set by the President and the government, Huawei will continue to increase investment in the ICT and contribute to the development of Informatization in Uzbekistan.

We work "in Uzbekistan, for the benefit of Uzbekistan" and always ask ourselves how best to support the rapid and sustainable development of Uzbek society. What will society need in the future? How can our global experience help Uzbek people? And we would like to look further into the future by answering these questions. We were inspired by the results of landscaping the Chinese Maowusu desert. The 51,400 square kilometer desert was reduced to less than 4,000 square kilometers after 70 years of continuous care. And it is said that the uninhabited area was left mainly in memory of the experience of managing deserts.

Everyone knows that Uzbekistan is a landlocked country with a dry climate, and water resources have always been a key problem that affects the economy of the entire country, and on which the standard of living of many people depends. The famous Aral Sea has dried up on a large scale, and the local population is exposed to the consequences and influences of the resulting desert, both in terms of health and access to drinking water, as well as in socio-economic development. The need for water resources will only increase with the growth of the national economy of the country, as well as the need for a favorable and healthy environment.

As an international company established in China, we have been developing and operating in Uzbekistan for 20 years. And all these years we have tried to be a responsible social citizen. Looking ahead to the next two decades, Huawei Uzbekistan hopes to contribute to the development of water management in Uzbekistan and to create conditions for sustainable development of communities in arid regions under the “Green Uzbekistan”initiative. We were happy to support the initiative of UNDP Uzbekistan to green the bottom of the Aral Sea and were among the first to join the organizers as a sponsor. By opening a special Fund to support the project, UNDP Uzbekistan plans to plant saxaul on the territory of the former sea, thereby returning biodiversity to the region and improving the lives of the population.

By contributing to the support of nature today and launching the "Green Uzbekistan" initiative, we will ensure the sustainable development of the country that we treat with awe and love for decades to come. We encourage everyone to become part of the project and provide their support to the region.

The global campaign Tech4All.

Huawei has several joint projects with non-profit organizations that focus on nature conservation and environmental protection. One of them is a collaboration with Rainforest Connection. Used Huawei smartphones with solar batteries are installed in trees, where experts use a cloud application based on artificial intelligence to track sounds in the forest in real time, allowing you to protect it from illegal logging and monitor the condition of local residents. This is an example of how technology helps to preserve the treasures given by nature.
