Mass Screening Effort Finds 338 Precancerous Cases in Uzbekistan
At a press conference with the Sanitary-Epidemiological Peace and Public Health Committee and international organizations, they discussed preventing cervical cancer. They mentioned a partnership between the Research Institute of Virology and South Korea's KOFIH Foundation.
Free screenings were done in Tashkent, Andijan, and Samarkand regions for women aged 30-49. 44,258 women were screened, finding 338 precancerous cases. WHO advises screening every 3 years for ages 25-49 and every 5 years for ages 50-64. Vaccination against human papillomavirus is recommended for girls aged 9-14, preventing 90% of cervical cancer cases.
