Uzbekistan digitizes 250 million trees

More than 250 million trees have been digitized in Uzbekistan, and a digital map has been created. Currently, the certification of trees is underway in Tashkent as a test mode, as outlined in the President's Decree.

The tree certification process involves three stages. Initially, tree registration occurs with aerial and space images. Subsequently, a database will be established, including information on the type, age, height, condition, and location coordinates of trees. Lastly, each tree will be assigned an identification number, and a passport will be created on the electronic platform "Yashil Makon."

During the first stage, the green space area in all regions was determined, analyzing the region's trees and shrubs through a geoinformation system with satellite photographs. Additionally, the Scientific Research Institute of Environment and Environmental Technologies under the Ministry examined all trees nationwide, determining their coordinates and numbers. A digital map was then created using satellite images, remote sensing, geoinformation systems, and artificial intelligence technologies, with insights drawn from the experiences of countries such as the USA, Canada, China, India, Australia, Russia, Germany, and Japan.

This survey covered trees not older than 5 years in all districts of Uzbekistan. In total, coordinates for 254 million, 162 thousand, and 505 trees were determined, contributing to the creation of a digital map.

The 2nd and 3rd stages involve on-site inspectors, and improvements have been made to the Yashil Makon electronic platform. A tree registry system has been introduced where information about the type, diameter, condition, coordinates, photos, and responsible organization of trees is entered using special tablets.

As of today, more than 200 thousand trees have been registered throughout the republic, and their information is included on the electronic platform.
