It was the fourth time that Real Madrid, the Champions League champions, lifted the Super Cup trophy, and they are the first team to retain the trophy since AC Milan in 1990.
Goals in Skopje came from Casemiro in the first half and Isco in the second for Real. New signing Romulu Lukaku scored the only goal for Manchester United, the Europa League champions.
After the match Real Madrid lifted high the trophy while United's manager Jose Mourinho gave away his runner-up medal to a boy in the crowd wearing a Manchester United shirt, something he has done before.
