Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan to launch joint Silk Road tourism initiative
Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan have agreed to take joint measures to develop a shared tourism route. The two countries will collaborate to promote travel across key destinations along the historic Silk Road.
Chairperson of Uzbekistan’s Tourism Committee, Umid Shadiev held talks in Samarkand with Deputy Head of Azerbaijan’s State Tourism Agency, Azada Guseynova. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation and advancing joint tourism initiatives. Following the meeting, Uzbekistan’s National PR Center and Azerbaijan’s Tourism Bureau signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at boosting a unified tourist route along the Silk Road.
Under the Joint Silk Road Highlights Tour initiative, the two countries will promote cross-border tours in Central European markets, with an emphasis on key historical landmarks including Baku, Shamakhi, Khiva, Bukhara, and Samarkand.
The tourism authorities also plan to organize joint B2B events, roadshows, and participate in international exhibitions together. The initiative is expected to increase tourist flows and raise the visibility of the historical and cultural heritage of both nations.
