Uzbekistan to reforms its postal system

Uzbekistan places 93rd in the Universal Postal Union’s Integrated Index for Postal Development.

A new decree signed by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev aims to improve that ranking. It provides for the implementation of “large-scale reforms” to get the postal service in line with international standards.

Among other things, the decree provides for implementation of the "last mile" service in cooperation with domestic and foreign companies engaged in the provision of postal and courier services;

providing modern services to the population, business and government agencies by improving and digitising traditional postal services; implementing information technologies and systems in the processes of receiving, tracking and delivering mail;

a two-fold increase in the number of services for receiving and delivering "hybrid mail" items;

creation of an information system for an electronic trading platform that provides an opportunity for online sales and delivery of products from domestic manufacturers to customers;

creation of logistics centres and the establishment and development of services that include storage and delivery of goods;

modernisation of the automated system for online payment;

and doubling the number of financial services such as in accepting payments from the population, as well as setting up banking services based on outsourcing in at least 1,000 post offices of the country, especially in remote and hard-to-reach areas.

Mirziyoyev also asked for the renovation of 267 post offices, as well as the creation of hundreds of new jobs with the opening of additional post offices.
