Stunning new mosque opens in Andijan
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during his trip to Andijan visited the Main Friday Mosque of the region.
The first mosque in the region was built in 1870. Construction of the current one began in 2018 and was completed in May of this year.
Erected in the old style of "four Ivan" and "four gates", both sides of the building have towers with a height of 54 meters, the main hall is crowned by a dome with a diameter of 18 meters.
The accommodation of the mosque has been increased from 5,000 to 15,000 worshippers.
“I thank the engineers, builders and decorators, as well as the benefactors who contributed to the construction of this mosque. I congratulate the Andijan people on this occasion, may this building serve our people for many years," Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
