Uzbekistan and South Korea sign memorandum on environmental impact assessment

Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change is on a working visit to South Korea. The visit focuses on strengthening cooperation in environmental expertise, improving environmental impact assessment (EIA) systems, and ensuring carbon neutrality. As part of the trip, a Memorandum of Cooperation has been signed between the State Environmental Expertise Center and the Korea Environment Institute.

The memorandum outlines key areas of collaboration, including:

 • Enhancing environmental impact assessment systems.

 • Increasing public participation in environmental decision-making.

 • Expanding cooperation through joint strategic environmental assessment projects.

 • Aligning national environmental legislation with international standards.

 • Implementing pilot projects to reduce carbon footprints.

 • Organizing training seminars to enhance specialists’ qualifications.

 • Developing cooperation under the KOICA-supported project to improve Uzbekistan’s environmental assessment system and introduce advanced monitoring technologies.

The visit also aims to explore South Korea’s experience in carbon footprint reduction, develop effective legal frameworks for public access to environmental information, and establish a unified digital system for real-time environmental monitoring.
