Belarus may participate in Tashkent tram project

Within the framework of the international exhibition “INNOPROM. Central Asia”, which started on 24.04.2022 in Tashkent, the Prime Ministers of Uzbekistan and Belarus outlined the prospects for cooperation in the field of mechanical engineering.

“We have proposals in the field of passenger urban transport. The development of electric transport today is not just a tribute to fashion, in our opinion, this is the main decision that will determine the structure of transport in the coming decades. We would like to offer our capabilities in this environmentally friendly transport sector, - said Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko.

The sides touched upon the possibility Belarus in the resumption of tram service in the capital of Uzbekistan.

“The Belarusian side is ready to provide comprehensive solutions with the necessary infrastructure, planning and supply of rolling stock. If such a decision is made, then we will consider the possibility of production in Uzbekistan,” said Golovchenko.

The Belarusian side also expressed interest in developing industrial cooperation. It was about projects for the production of agricultural, special, emergency equipment based on Belarusian solutions.

In this direction, it was emphasized that Belarus and Uzbekistan have a strong agricultural base and modern technologies for growing agricultural products.

“We must be prepared for the need to increase food production. The Belarusian side has proposals for the implementation of joint programs with Uzbekistan using our experience and technologies. We are ready to meet the needs for pedigree livestock, animal feed, premixes, veterinary drugs, and the creation of supporting dairy complexes,” the Prime Minister said.

In 2021, the trade turnover between Belarus and Uzbekistan amounted to $301.9 million and increased by 7.8% compared to 2020, exports - $245.4 million (an increase of 3.3%). Positive balance - $188.9 million.

The main positions of Belarusian exports in 2021 were specific goods, meat and meat products, medicines, vinyl chloride polymers, milk powder, diagnostic reagents. The basis of imports of goods from Uzbekistan was cotton yarn, fresh and dried fruits, specific products, rolled copper, bed linen.
