Uzbek Defense Ministry denies “possible movement” of Russian troops in Uzbekistan

Uzbek citizens have expressed discontent and concerns over Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu’s recent trip to Uzbekistan. They, in particular, said that "now Russia's influence on Uzbekistan will be strengthened", "Russian troops may enter the country", "we may be involved in Russia's military conflicts".

The Ministry of Defense of Uzbekistan said that all the concerns are groundless and have no logical justification.

"The fundamental documents in the field of defense have clear and precise answers to these questions. In particular, paragraph 10 of the Defense Doctrine states that the policy of Uzbekistan in this area is based on the principles of preventing the deployment of foreign military bases and facilities on its territory, the non - participation of the armed forces in peacekeeping operations and military conflicts abroad," the Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry also underlined that Russia remains the largest partner in the supply of weapons and military equipment to Uzbekistan.
