The driving speed to be reduced to 60 km/h
The state program for 2023 was placed for public discussion. The project highlights the reforms in road safety.
From June 1, 2023, it is proposed to reduce the maximum speed of vehicles from 70 kilometres per hour to 60 in all populated areas of Uzbekistan.
The document states that the speed reduction will decrease the number of deaths by at least 15%. According to data, 1,200 traffic accidents occurred in Tashkent alone in 2022, which is almost 130 more than in 2021 (1,073). During this period, the number of people killed in traffic accidents is 136.
